Our downsizing was a long process and as January 31st we were officially out of the house and onto the boat. I say it was a long process but we were able to get rid of just about everything in 3 months. I gave away everything to my son or friends and took car loads to the local women’s shelter. My son was able to completely furnish his new 3 bedroom townhouse with all my beloved Ethan Allen furniture I saved forever to buy. Believe it or not it was not hard to let go of my stuff, in fact it was sort of freeing. Of course we claimed one of the bedrooms in my son’s townhouse so that when we need a “boat break” we have a place to go. Although I gave away tons of my clothing I still ending cramming 2 closets with cloths… I need to take some time and make a few more trips to women’s shelter with more cloths. We also claimed the garage in the townhouse to store our boxes and my beloved 1977 MG B.
Kate and Scott came to visit and escape the snow in Ohio the week we decided to relocate Sweet Escape. With their help we motored Sweet Escape to her new marina in St. Petersburg. We had hoped to be able to show off how well Sweet Escape sails but we had absolutely no wind, so we motored 11 nautical miles across the bay! Bummer! But I think Kate and Scott still enjoyed the trip since it was warm out and the sun was out. Turns out our new slip is a tight fight with our 15 ft. beam and the fairways are somewhat narrow so no wind was a blessing for docking our Sweet Escape in her new slip.
I absolutely love all the new canvas work we had done. Tampa Bay Upholstery did an amazing job! We started with only an old Bimini and cushions that had seen better days. In addition to a new Bimini we added a dodger, dodger cheeks, winch covers, port and window coverings and had the cushions all recovered. I totally love the toast colored piping that was added to everything.
We have decided to move to a new marina, one that has more amenities and more people living aboard. We will move from Apollo Beach to downtown St. Petersburg. I’m excited that we will be able to walk everywhere and be able to enjoy all the events that we always miss because of the drive around the bay.
