Cabin Kitchen Makeover

I decided to give our little cabin kitchen a simple makeover. We had a broken dishwasher and replaced it with a much needed cabinet.  I couldn’t find a stock cabinet that matched the wood cabinets we had so I decided to paint all the cabinets with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint.  I picked this type of paint because I didn’t have to do much prep work. It was super easy and super inexpensive; wipe down cabinets, add 2 coats of chalk paint and a couple of coats of wax. I added a little dark wax just to give the cabinets a little rustic character.

I Spy a Bear!!

These are not pictures found on the Internet and it is not Henry dressed up! LOL!!  When we arrived at the cabin last week Henry immediately filled our bird feeder with food, and within 2 hours this bear cub wandered right into our front yard to have an afternoon snack.  Our neighbors have since informed us NOTHING should be left outside otherwise we will have regular unwanted visitors.

A Change in Plans

A Slight Change In Plans! The golden rule for sailors: “Plans might as well be written in sand at low tide.” We’re huge planners and while it is important for sailors to make plans, it’s just as important to have the flexibility and imagination to toss those plans out the portal.

A year ago we dramatically downsized from our oversized seaside home and moved onto our sailboat to begin a unique lifestyle. We’ve had an amazing year living on our boat; however, we haven’t been able to permanently cut our dock lines as quickly as we had planned. Sometime between having our boat on the hard (aka in a cradle on land) for close to two months and then breaking my leg we decided to make a slight change in our plans and buy “landlubber” retreat. A place where we can escape from things like the bloody summer heat or the challenges of living with a broken leg on a boat. Or a place where we can just regroup and “put a little wind back in our sails”. Today, exactly one year after moving onto our sailboat, we have become the proud owners of a beautiful Smokey Mountain cabin. Now we have the best of both worlds, S/V Sweet Escape and Sweet Escape Mountain Retreat. Simplicity, Tiny Footprints and Amazing Views!!!
